What is your role at Aging Wisdom?

I am a Care Manager.

What made you want to work in the field of aging?

My maternal grandma lived with Alzheimer’s and as her disease progressed, I became the only person she would trust to help her with tasks. When I was in college, I worked at an Adult Day Program with adults with dementia and other disabilities and further solidified my love for working in the field of aging.

How has your perspective about care management evolved in the time you’ve worked at Aging Wisdom? What surprises you?

While my time at Aging Wisdom has been short so far compared to my wonderful colleagues, I’m surprised by much we do to support everyone in such individualized ways. This role truly shows how everyone lives a different journey and that the best support offered looks different from person to person.

What do you love about your job?

I love meeting with all my clients and their families exactly where they are at and supporting everyone in such different ways, depending on their individual needs and wants. Everyone’s story and journey are so different from one another, so being able to show up exactly as each client needs me presents a challenge and balance that keeps me on my toes and dedicated to this work.

Tell us about a professional success story that you’re proud of.

I have experience working with families, friends, and loved ones who are experiencing grief and loss. I was able to support a family in processing the loss of their loved one, who has been incarcerated for most of his life. I honored him with the same respect and dignity that I show every one of my client’s and their families. After getting to know this family and their loved one over three days, they went out of their way to thank me for treating him as their son, brother, and father, rather than as an inmate during his last few days. This family informed my colleagues a year after his passing that they still think about the respect and care I showed him and their family.

What motivates you?

I’m motivated by bringing peace of mind, comfort, and trust to all the clients I work with. I want to ensure that everyone I work with and partner with feels their voice is heard, while also getting the support they need to stay healthy, safe, and as autonomous as possible. I want my clients to know that they have someone in their corner advocating for their best interests.
