What is your role at Aging Wisdom?
I am a Care Manager.
What made you want to work in the field of aging?
I grew up living with my grandparents, who valued compassion, respect, and lifelong learning. My grandmother lived with Alzheimer’s disease, and I saw firsthand how greatly this impacted my family. Her experience helped nurture patience and an appreciation for living in the present moment among our family members. It also made clear how much support is needed to navigate these situations. Through this, I realized that I wanted to pursue work where I could provide this type of support to others.
How has your perspective about care management evolved in the time you’ve worked at Aging Wisdom? What surprises you?
Care Managers navigate various circumstances and perspectives to problem solve for each client’s specific needs. I was surprised by how expansive the field of aging and care management truly is. It connects countless areas including housing, finances, healthcare, and support services. Working at Aging Wisdom has given me the opportunity to explore so many of these areas.
What do you love about your job?
I love that the position allows me to meet clients where they are and collaborate with families to provide guidance and care when needed. I also love learning about my clients’ lives, interests, and current goals to better inform care recommendations.
Tell us about a professional success story that you’re proud of.
For a year, I volunteered at a grief support center during family nights for children and their guardians. Family nights helped families process grief and connect with others who had experienced loss. Supporting both children and adults through different stages of grief was an incredible experience. It was wonderful to see individuals go from being reserved, to feeling comfortable sharing stories and participating in activities.
What motivates you?
I am motived by the desire to make a positive impact in my clients’ lives. I hope to ease the load on clients by filling in the gaps in their support systems, while ensuring that every client is treated with dignity throughout the process.
