What is your role at Aging Wisdom?
What made you want to work in the field of aging?
I am drawn to this work because I enjoy spending time with people who live with various disabilities and aging-related challenges. It is through meaningful relationships that I developed in my work with people with intellectual disabilities and dementia that I knew I wanted to make a career out of this work. The combination of the appreciation I have for clients and a strong sense of wanting to improve access to essential services that keep people safe and enhance their quality of life keeps me in this work.
How has your job changed in the time you’ve worked at Aging Wisdom?
I started as a care manager associate, having recently graduated from the Master of Social Work program at UW. I am now a Certified Care Manager. The AW team has been incredibly supportive of my growth and development as a clinician, offering quality trainings and supervision.
What do you love about your job?
Learning from and collaborating with amazing colleagues and clients.
Tell us about a professional success story that you’re proud of.
I was working with a client who had lost trust in all medical, residential, and home care services. Over time, we developed a trusting relationship, and she became open to attending medical appointments and accepting some services in her home. I was able to learn what was most important to her and together we made progress on her health goals, while approaching tasks in her way, which included loudly singing The Beatles together in our car rides to her medical appointments.
What motivates you?
Earning a client’s trust by listening to their personal stories, their values and their needs. Every client is different with their own unique life, and I am motivated by the personalized care and recommendations I get to provide in this work.
